Over the past decade, social media has gone from a new avenue for people all over the world to connect online into one of the most integral marketing tools for big and small businesses alike.

But when Twitter was blossoming into a resource for brands/companies/artists to connect with potential/current customers, old school or “traditional” marketing gurus were apprehensive about using it and didn’t truly believe tweets had any chance of being as effective at influencing consumers as they have become.

Nowadays, Twitter is one of the premier destinations for any and all brands to garner attention from the masses.

Companies now know having a brilliant social media strategist on payroll is paramount. Viral posts/tweets are priceless, but they are far from unattainable if you run socials in a relatable, funny and/or entertaining manner.

When consumers feel like they are connecting with a person instead of a corporation, it drastically increases the chances that they will spend money and remain engaged with any given brand.

Take Wendy’s for example. Wendy’s has managed to amass an unfathomable 2.15 million followers on Twitter thanks to an expertly executed, consistent game plan.

So, what is it that makes Wendy’s Twitter so appealing? Well, the account’s numerous savage roasts of any and all competitors undoubtedly helps.

On Black Friday, McDonald’s — which has well over one million more followers than Wendy’s yet oftentimes can’t even muster 25 percent of the engagement Wendy’s does — made a major Twitter error when the account posted an incomplete promotional tweet that was clearly carelessly copied and pasted from an email.

And Wendy’s was more than happy to add insult to injury with a ruthless shot at the now well known, disgusting issues McDonald’s has had with its ice cream machines.

The tweet went viral in a hurry. This makes plenty of sense, as it was quite savage…

Wendy’s has made a habit of roasting McDonald’s online and everyone seems to enjoy it when it goes down.

Then there was that time Wendy’s got into an intense rap beef (pun sorta intended) with Winsgstop, and absolutely eviscerated the up-and-coming chicken wing chain with bars that would make B-Rabbit from 8 Mile incredibly proud.
