Fast food is a way of life in North America. Tons of families order in dinner or go and pick up take out on the way home. Gone are the days when homemade meals and sit down dinners were had every day at 6 pm. This is partly due to the fact that everyone is so busy and not many people can cook. So, in light of this here are some of the best and worst fast-food restaurant orders.
Best: Wendy’s Baconator and Frosty
Almost every fast food place has some kind of burger with bacon on it. You just can’t go wrong with bacon; it’s a crowd favorite. But you can’t do better than ordering Wendy’s Baconator. Wendy’s Baconator is really a cheeseburger with bacon on it, but it’s so much more than that. The burger patty is square for starters and that alone changes the burger. It feels like there’s more meat to the burger because of that. Everything is also cooked to perfection. Once you have a Baconator you won’t want another kind of hamburger.
Along with your Baconator, you should also be ordering Wendy’s chocolate Frosty. A Frosty is a cross between a really thick milkshake and soft serve ice cream. You can either drink it through a straw (although that is challenging) or you can eat it with a spoon. There is no right way. The only thing that you have to do is order one. It’s a must and you will never be disappointed.
Worst: KFC Chicken Pot Pie
First, we need to get it straight that no fast food item is healthy. Some of them are healthier options than others to be sure, but they’re not healthy. That being said, the KFC Chicken Pot Pie is on the list under worst because of the amount of sodium in it. You might shake your head and say that it doesn’t matter how much sodium it has in it, but trust us, it does. Too much sodium leads to bad cholesterol, which can lead to numerous problems including heart attacks. How much sodium does the KFC Chicken Pot Pie have, you ask? About a whole day’s worth. If you order this meal item you literally can’t eat anything else with salt in it for the rest of the day and good luck with that. So, if this is your standard KFC order when you go weekly, stop it now. Your heart, along with your general health, will thank you.
Best: White Castle sliders
When White Castle came out with their sliders everyone was excited. No one had seen such little burgers before and they were not only cute but delicious. The only problem with them is that they’re hard to find. There aren’t that many White Castles around. Way back in the day McDonald’s ended up creating their own version of sliders that were also quite popular and easier to get because there are so many McDonald’s locations, but they ended up removing them from their menu because they just weren’t cost effective. It does make you wonder how White Castle can make it work then. Anyway, should you ever be near a White Castle you have to order their sliders. They’re something that everyone should have at least once in their lives. Plus, since they’re so small and there are multiples of them they’re perfect for sharing, or for feeling like a giant while you munch on tiny hamburgers.
Worst: Chick-Fil-A’s Sausage Breakfast Platter
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. No one disputes this and most people love eating breakfast. Breakfast food is just so tasty. Another important factor in a good breakfast is that you should be having some protein with it. Protein is a good fuel that your body needs. Eggs are a great source of protein, as is meat. The problem with going out to get food is that sometimes you think you’re ordering a rather healthy-looking meal, but in reality, it’s anything but. Take for example the Chick-Fil-A’s Sausage Breakfast Platter. It looks so good and it has a lot of protein in it. While that’s true, it’s also 810 calories and worse than that it has 1,850 mg of sodium. That’s a lot of calories and way too much sodium to be ingesting for only one meal. You still have two more to go in the day. Avoid this menu item when you stop by Chick-Fil-A’s and order something else instead.
Best: Whataburger Jalapeño & Cheese Whataburger
Do you like burgers that have an extra little kick? Then you should definitely be ordering the Jalapeño & Cheese Whataburger from Whataburger. Perhaps you think that jalapeños shouldn’t be on a burger and if you’re thinking that then you, my friend, are entirely incorrect. Many different burger places do the same old thing (i.e. bacon and cheese) with their burgers, but it takes a different sort of place to add in some spice to make your meal just that little bit hotter. Next time you see a Whataburger make sure that you go in and give one a try. At the very least it’ll be a new experience for you and we’re all looking for new experiences. At the worst, it’ll be too hot for you to handle. If that’s the case no worries, not everyone can handle the heat, but you have to at least try.
Fast-food restaurants are only gaining in popularity and while they all try to have “healthy” items on their menus, it’s important to remember that nothing is truly healthy at any fast-food place that you go to. In light of this, make sure that you’re aware of the worst items on the menu in terms of calories, sodium, etc. and stay away from those. Order the things that not only taste good but also give your body a fighting chance of staying healthy.
