Being a contortionist is a party trick few people can say they’ve mastered. Bending your body into seemingly impossible shapes and stances takes time and dedication to perfect.

Consider hiring a professional

If you’re seriously committed to becoming a contortionist, it might be wise to reach out for professional help.

Whether it’s hiring a contortionist teacher or attending group classes, the knowledge you’ll gain from a professional is much more valuable than anything you can read on the internet. Plus it’s the safest way to begin testing your body’s limits.

That being said, if you want to try things on your own, there are some steps you can take.

Contortion stretching is key

There are two types of contortionists: front benders and back benders. If you’re freakishly talented, you can do both.

Before you even begin bending to a contortionist’s level, you need to practice contortionist stretching. This will help your body learn to stretch to new levels and eventually reach contortionist status.
