Red carpet arrivals: The best of the CMT Awards

The biggest stars in country music came out to the 2017 CMT Awards in Nashville June 6, and boy, do they know how to party!

Although the Nashville Predators forced the CMT’s to move to the smaller Music City Center, it didn’t stop the stars from putting on massive arena-worthy performances.

Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Charles Kelley opened the show with a tribute to the late Gregg Allman who died last month. Performing the Allman Brothers 1970 song “Midnight Rider,” they were joined by nephew of Allmans drummer Butch Trucks and gave an incredible performance.

The CMT’s always bring a little bit of the unexpected, with the artists clearly in the comfort zone.

The evening featured performances by Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and a beautiful, stripped down rendition of “The Fighter” by Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.

We may be as tired of hearing “The Fighter” as much as Urban and Underwood are tired of performing it. But their slowed-down version made the song new again. When the song finally sped up, it was like the sparks of a real romance which, considering Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman, was in the audience is quite the feat.

Luke Bryan and Jason Derulo took home the CTM performance of the year with “Want to Want Me” but the show-stealing moment came from Lauren Alaina.

The runner up on American Idol in 2011 won Breakthrough Video of the Year for “Road Less Traveled.”

When the legendary Reba McEntire presented Alaina with the award, she looked shocked and emotional. The night was full of surprises, hits and misses.  Click here for the full list of winners and performances.
