Ice Cube sets Bill Maher straight: That’s our word now, and you can’t have it back

“It’s our word now, and you can’t have it back,” said Ice Cube, about the N-word used by host Bill Maher last week during his live broadcast of Real Time.

After Bill Maher received criticism over his joke that he’s a “house N*****”people waited for Ice Cube’s appearance on June 9.

And as expected, Ice Cube didn’t hold back his opinion.

“I knew you were gonna f*** up sooner or later,” the rapper-turned-actor joked. “I love your show. You’ve got a great show. But you’ve been bucking up against that line a little bit. You’ve got a lot of black jokes….sometimes you sound like a redneck trucker.”

“My thing is this,” he began. “I just want to know two questions. What made you think that it was cool to say that?”

“There was no thought put into it,” Maher explained. “Obviously I was telling Doctor Dyson, comedians, they react. It was wrong and I apologized.”

Ice Cube said that while he accepted the apology, he believes there’s a lot of people who cross the line… It’s a word that has been used against us – it’s like a knife man. You can use it as a weapon or it can be used as a tool. It’s been used as a weapon against us, by white people. And we’re not going to let that happen again.

“That’s our word now, and you can’t have it back.”
